The Grand Rapids Police Department, along with other area emergency service agencies and local businesses, has been active in National Night Out since 1997.  This event is held yearly at the Central School grounds, where there are many activities for all ages to enjoy.

National Night out began almost 30 years ago in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.  National Night Out program culminates annually, on the first Tuesday of August.

National Night Out is dedicated to the development and promotion of various crime prevention programs including neighborhood watch groups, law enforcement agencies, state and regional crime prevention associations, businesses, civic groups, and individuals, devoted to safer communities.
