Mission Statement:

 

  • The Grand Rapids Area Library Friends is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the needs, improvements, and programs of the Library and serve as a strong voice for the Library in the community.

Who We Are:

  • Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization which provides on-going service and financial support to our Public Library.
  • We believe that the Public Library is one of our community's greatest assets.
  • We operate informally and respond to needs of the library.

What We Do:

  • Host and manage a Used Book Store.
  • Purchase furniture and other fixtures.
  • Support staff appreciation events.
  • Honor staff requests throughout the year.
  • Pay for subscription services.
  • Support the Children’s and Teen’s Library collections and programs.
  • Support volunteer appreciation activities.
  • Host annual sales and fundraising events.
  • Pay for book recycling services.

Ongoing Fundraising:

  • USED BOOK STORE
    Friends of the Library recycles used books through the Bookstore, just off the library lobby. Anyone can donate gently used books, magazines and DVDs. These will be placed in the Bookstore. Buyers can browse the store anytime the Library is open. Money can be placed in the money depository.
  • BOOK BAGS
    Sturdy tote bags for $10 are available for purchase at the Circulation Desk. They are imprinted with the library's name and phone number. 
  • MEMBERSHIP
    Membership contributions can be left with Library staff or dropped in the money depository in the Used Bookstore. Checks should be made out to Grand Rapids Area Library Friends.


  • Contributions to either the Library Foundation or to the Friends of the Library, or directly to the Grand Rapids Area Library itself, can qualify for tax deductions, according to Internal Revenue Service rules.
